This group works closely with users and communities to discover sustainability and social development problems that can be addressed using information and communication technologies (ICTs), and utilizes diverse methods for this including geospatial algorithms, embedded systems, machine learning on earth observation data, speech recognition and natural language processing, wireless networks, etc. Some important areas of work include decision support systems for natural resource management of water and forests, monitoring of air pollution in cities, setting up community information networks, and responsible management of participatory media systems, among others.
